Gardai launch appeal following theft at school on Laois border

Gardaí at Birr are investigating the theft of lead roofing from Drumakeenan NS, Roscrea which is near the Laois border.

The incident happened at the weekend and Gardai are looking for people who have information to contact them.

They say: “Did you see anything suspicious over the weekend, any vehicles and persons at the location?

“If you passed the location between Friday afternoon and Monday morning and you saw anything or have dashcam footage please check it and let Gardaí in Birr know.”

Elsewhere, revenue seized drugs worth over €80,000 at Portlaoise Mail Centre yesterday.

Officers seized 3.9kgs of herbal cannabis and 10.1kgs of khat with a combined estimated street value of €83,050.

The illegal drugs were discovered by Revenue officers following routine profiling, with the assistance of Revenue detector dog Sam.

The drugs were concealed in two separate parcels from Kenya and Thailand and were destined for addresses in Dublin City Centre.

One parcel was labelled as ‘clothing’ and the other as a ‘wedding gift’.

Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting drug importations.
