The Garda helicopter has been spotted in the skies over Portlaoise this afternoon.
LaoisToday understands that it is providing assistance to Gardai who are carrying out an armed raid.
This is believed to be taking place in the Knockmay area of Portlaoise but it is believed Gardai were searching for fire arms.
This comes just a day after Gardai launched an appeal following a suspected petrol bomb attack in Mountmellick.
Taking to Facebook, Laois Gardai said: “Gardaí were called to a house in the Bay Road area of Mountmellick at around 3am on Sunday morning, March 17 in response to a report that an object was thrown at a house. The missile failed to hit building.
“Anybody who may have seen anything or have information that could help Gardaí with our investigation are asked to contact Mountmellick or Portlaoise on (057) 867 4100 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
While a day previously, an elderly man was the victim of an assault in Portlaoise.
The incident took place on the evening of the March 16, Saturday, at St Brigid’s Place in Portlaoise.
