In March 2008, The Harps Camogie club hosted a Wax or Shave event as fundraiser for their club.
There were plenty of ‘ooos’ and ‘aaahs’ as the men from the surrounding areas lined up to be waxed or sheered – with Alf Harvey on hand to capture the action.
The Harps Camogie Club was founded in 1994 and is comprised of girls from the villages of Cullohill and Durrow and some surrounding areas in County Laois.
The club has teams competing at all ages in juvenile and senior.
The club has been incredibly successful in it’s short life span culminating in winning the All Ireland Junior club title three years in a row.
In the late 90s and early 2000s the club won several Feile na nGael U-14 titles accompanied by several underage county titles.
The Harps success started in 2006 when they won there first All Ireland Junior Club Champions and then won it twice in a row after that in 2007 and 2008.
2009, 2010 and 2011 saw The Harps continue their winning ways at senior level – adding three more county final titles and three more Leinster titles at the higher Intermediate level.
