The last Fine Gael selection convention ahead of May’s Local Elections will take place Thursday night in St Fintan’s Hall in Mountrath at 8.30pm.
And it is set to be an interesting affair as five men have put themselves forward to get on the ticket in the Borris-In-Ossory-Mountmellick area.
Sitting councillors David Goodwin and John King will contest along with newcomer Conor Bergin who announced his intention to run at the start of this month.
Meanwhile, a former candidate and a new one have also entered the race.
Bobby Delaney ran in the area in 2014 but was eliminated on the fourth count.
Meanwhile, Fergal Conroy, of Fergal’s Driver Training Services in Mountmellick, has also been nominated.
It is not confirmed yet how many candidates Fine Gael will run in the area and the guest chairperson will also be revealed on the night.
In 2014, Fine Gael ran five candidates – with Cllr David Goodwin seeing off his long-standing colleague Michael Lalor for the second Fine Gael seat. Cllr John King, who is now Cathaoirleach, topped the poll in the area with Bobby Delaney and John Finlay from Ballacolla also on the ticket.
Fianna Fail confirmed their candidates at the end of last year as former GAA President Liam O’Neill will run alongside councillors Paddy Bracken and Seamus McDonald and newcomer Declan Goode.
Meanwhile, Lorna Holohan Garry will run for Sinn Fein in the area also while sitting independent councillors Brendan Phelan and James Kelly have also confirmed that they will contest again.
