A public information session on the new national heritage plan will be held on the 7th and 15th of February in Portlaoise.
Speaking this morning from the county hall, Minister Flanagan described the new national heritage plan for Ireland as ‘ambitious’. He encouraged people to attend the information evening in Portlaoise to hear about the Ireland 2030 plan and get advice on preparing a submission.
“Our heritage is a shared responsibility and a shared treasure. We need to work together at national, local and community level to care for it and unlock its future potential.
“So I invite you to play your part in shaping the future of our heritage and have your say during this consultation period.”
“The natural and built heritage around us enriches our lives, inspires our achievements and gives life to our communities. It underpins our culture, our economy and our society.”
There will be two seperate sessions. The public information session will take place on the 7th February 3-7:30pm in Portlaoise Library. A Heritage Forum meeting will be held on the 15th February at 2pm.
Minister Flanagan’s vision for heritage is that it is ‘valued and protected’ and the way in which we protect our heritage is ‘the best it can be’.
Heritage Ireland 2030 will guide the Government’s heritage priorities and investment over the next decade and beyond. It will include a €285m commitment to heritage in the Department’s ten year investment plan ‘Investing in Our Culture, Language and Heritage 2018-2027’, which was launched in April 2018.
