In Pictures: Liam McCarthy Cup and All-Ireland winning hurlers visit Timahoe NS

What a treat this was for all the staff and kids in Timahoe NS.

Back in August, the Limerick hurlers dethroned Galway in an enthralling encounter in Croke Park to claim the Liam McCarthy Cup.

The Treaty saw off Galway in the All-Ireland final by a score line of 3-16 to 2-18.

Limerick’s victory was their eighth All-Ireland title and first since 1973.

And two of the stars of that team, captain Declan Hannon and midfielder Cian Lynch, travelled to Timahoe NS this morning with the Liam McCarthy Cup.

The visit came about through Damien Bowe, the father of Patrick and Ruiarí, who works with the star hurlers in University of Limerick.

Principal Ann Bergin was very complimentary to Damien for making the visit happen and for allowing the children such an opportunity.

She also thanked Declan and Cian for being so accommodating and for being such an inspiration to the children of Timahoe NS.

The visit concluded with a quick tour of the classrooms and the magnificent new extension that has just been opened. The children got a final opportunity to ask questions, get their hurleys, jerseys and sliotars signed.

Of course their last action was to officially absolve all students of homework that night which was gleefully accepted by all.

By the time the super-stars left, everyone was buzzing about hurling and the countdown for the Cumann na mBunscol competitions had well and truly started.

Declan Hannon’s connection to Laois emerged after his All-Ireland win as it was revealed that he buys his hurls from Cuddy Sports in Meelick, Portlaoise.

It was a winning change for Hannon as he has only moved to Cuddy’s this year.

Our photographer Julie Anne Miller went along and captured some great pictures:
