A young Portarlington girl remains in hospital following a crash close to her home on the Edenderry Road, in which she suffered injuries including fractures.
It is understood the accident occurred when the child’s mother was turning into the gate of her home, on the outskirts of Portarlington.
The crash, which involved three cars, happened on the R419 at around 5pm on Thursday (April 20).
The mother, who was the driver of one of the vehicles, and her two young daughters required hospital treatment following the collision.
It is believed the national school student is now the only person remaining in hospital following the accident.
A man was released without charge following his arrest and detention in Portlaoise Garda Station in the aftermath of the serious road crash.
The man arrested was the driver of another car involved in the collision.
It is understood the crash happened when one of the vehicles attempted to overtake another.
Forensic
The road was closed for a period of time afterwards but has now reopened following a forensic examination and investigations are ongoing.
