In Pictures: Beat the Barge celebrates successful seventh year running

The annual Vicarstown Beat the Barge event was back was a bang on Monday, October 29.

This year the 4km run had a spooky Halloween theme – a Beat the Barge Zombie Run.

Participants were invited to dress up and run in fancy dress, with zombies being especially welcome.

The idea of the event is to complete the 4km before the barge on the water gets back.

A massive annual event

Beat the Barge traditionally takes place in September, but it was moved to the last weekend of October this year as Annanough were in the junior county final.

Massive numbers of people turn out to the event, with over 200 people taking place in this year’s run.

Registration took place from 11am in Vicarstown Community Centre and race begins at 12 noon.

The first 200 people to register got a technical t-shirt and light refreshments were served afterwards in Crean’s Pub.
