The promise of an intermediate All-Ireland quarter-final draws closer for the Laois Ladies as they face off against Longford in Clane at 1.30pm.
Despite winning the Leinster final, Laois are no closer to winning the ultimate prize than any of the other 13 teams in the competition.
What happens now is that the teams are split between four groups and are seeded based on what stage they were knocked out of their respective provincial championships.
Group 1 consists of Laois, beaten Connacht finalists Sligo and beaten Leinster semi-finalists Longford. The team who tops the group will play the runners up from Group 2 in the quarter final with second place playing the team who finishes first.
The groups
Group 1: Laois, Sligo, Longford
Group 2: Tyrone, Wicklow, Offaly
Group 3: Clare, Down, Kildare, Wexford Group 4: Roscommon, Fermanagh, Meath.
Laois’s first group match is today, Sunday July 22, against Longford. Their second group game against Sligo is on Sunday, July 29. You can follow all the progress in Laois’s first group match here.
