A child remains in hospital in Dublin following a road traffic accident in Portlaoise town centre yesterday afternoon.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist them with their investigation.
The accident involved a young boy and a car at Bridge Street shortly before 3 pm on Wednesday.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Portlaoise Hospital following the accident and was later transferred to Dublin.
The accident occurred when the child was hit by a car in the car park of the centre.
The Well Road/Bridge Street area in Portlaoise was closed briefly to traffic following the incident with traffic diversions in place.
“We are appealing to anyone who was in the Bridge Street/Well Road area between 2.30 and 3.30 pm yesterday and witnessed anything to come forward,” a garda spokesperson said.
