The number of people eligible to vote in Laois in the upcoming Eight Amendment Referendum has grown substantially.
Figures released by the Department of Housing shows that the electoral register grew by 3.2 per cent since February this year.
A total of 63,654 people can now vote in Laois tomorrow, up 2,010, and this rise is reflected around the country.
An extra 118,389 people have been added to the supplementary register ahead of tomorrow’s referendum on the Eighth Amendment.
This is a huge increase on the number added ahead of the same-sex marriage referendum in 2015 when almost 66,000 people were added to the register.
Overall, more than 3.3 million people, 3,348,061 in total, are now registered to vote in tomorrow’s referendum.
Our neighbours in Kildare and Offaly have also seen an increase.
In Offaly, an extra 1,704 are now eligible to vote, a 2.6 per cent rise, while in Kildare the increase is 5.4 per cent.
What this all means won’t become clear until the vote takes place tomorrow.
