We’re in high spirits in the LaoisToday office today after being nominated for a prestigious national Social Media award.
LaoisToday.ie have been shortlisted in the ‘Best Use of Snapchat’ category in the 2018 Social Media awards, popularly known in the industry as The Sockies.
Also shortlisted in the category are Bank of Ireland, University of Limerick, Union of Students Ireland (USI), CMRF Crumlin (the fundraising group aligned to Crumlin Children’s Hospital) and GroupM (a global media investment group).
The finalists will be announced in two weeks with the awards ceremony to take place in the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin on June 14.
The LaoisToday Snapchat account has proven very popular since we launched it last year. Our nomination is based on the back of our renowned ‘Takeovers’ where we hand over the account to different people around the county to give us an insight into various events.
The three ‘Takeovers’ in question involve Mary Phelan and Bernard ‘BMan’ Rochford at the National Ploughing Championships last year; Portarlington sisters Aisling ‘Nailers’ O’Neill and Janet Bennett and their GAA coverage; and Laois hurler Podge Lawlor and his coverage of the Laois hurlers Sleepout for Simon before Christmas.
There are a number of different categories in total and among the well-known businesses nominated are Tesco, Lidl, Brown Thomas, Teeling Whiskey, Aer Lingus and Copper Face Jacks.
A number of national media outlets have also been nominated including Joe.ie, Balls.ie, Irish Farmers Journal and Lovin Media.
