There was a time there when the Castletown hurlers ruled the landscape of Laois hurling, their story of dominance during the late 90s and early Noughties a remarkable one of a small club that came all the way from Junior B to within touching distance of a Leinster title in a little over a decade.
The story of the finest team in the club’s history began with a Junior ‘B’ title in 1990. Two years later, in 1992, they won Junior ‘A’.
In 1993, they won intermediate. By 1995 they were senior champions for the first time in their history and they added a second in 1997.
They were dethroned in ’98 but after beating Portlaoise in the 1999 final they went on to do five in a row.
Indeed it was Portlaoise that denied them a record-breaking six-in-a-row in 2004.
But these pictures we’ve dug up are from the Dinner Dance celebrations of their 2003 county final triumph and we’ve no doubt they’ll bring memories back to those involved of that glorious golden era.
Alf Harvey’s archives have delivered some gems once again.
Enjoy the stroll down memory lane!
