The extensive redevelopment of a vacant hotel in Athy is in the planning.
The property, situated just off Stanhope Street, was originally a Mercy Convent before it was turned into a hotel during in 2006.
However, the hotel, which was known as the Carlton Abbey Hotel, was only open for six years before the doors were shut on the 39-bedroom hotel in January 2012.
It was since sold last year to new owners.
Country Home & Venue Holdings is seeking planning permission for a re-vamp of the three-storey building.
The plan to build two single storey glass extensions, demolish some internal walls and create a wedding suite and a new lobby.
The plans include work to install electronic security gates and security fencing.

A large wedding suite is also included in the plans which will have access to a new small enclosed roof garden.
A decision is due from Kildare Co Council on the plans in early May.
The existing bar in the hotel seats approximately 100 while a restaurant fits 80 persons.
The function room there has capacity for around 180 people with dedicated bar, toilets, and dance floor.
Some smaller meeting rooms and residents’ lounges are also included on the premises.
