Safety measures needed for ‘rat run’, says local councillor
Road safety measures are needed for what is now a ‘rat run’ in Mountrath, said cllr James Kelly at the recent Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick municipal district meeting.
Cllr Kelly said that ramps are needed for Hogan’s lane at Clonincurragh, Mountrath. “There are three or four houses on this lane and it’s very, very dangerous,” he added.
Cllr Seamus McDonald also proposed that ‘Children at Play’ signs be erected in the area.
Senior Engineer Farhan Nasiem said that road design will review the location and recommend proposals to improve the safety of the lane.
Severe lack of funding from Irish Public Bodies for Laois
A lack of funding from Irish Public Bodies was discussed at the recent Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick municipal district meeting.
Councillor Brendan Phelan raised the motion of an update funding from Irish Public Bodies.
“It’s been 12 months, and funding still hasn’t been made available,” said cllr Phelan.
Cllr James Kelly spoke about the need for funding for footpaths and drainage works.
“We’ve been speaking to the locals and we need funding,” the councillor added that the upgrade for the footpath in Mountrath cost around €30,000.
Head of Finance Gerry Murphy said he expected to receive an update on funding from the Irish Public Bodies Mutual Insurance within the next two weeks.
