Calls have been made for signs on local roads to be erected to make drivers aware that pedestrians and cyclists are using them.
Cllr Tom Mulhall brought the motion forward at a recent Municipal disrict meeting.
The Fine Gael Cllr received support for his proposal from Independent Cllr Ben Brennan.
He said: “There’s no control on some local roads as regards traffic and speed.
“When they build roads now, they throw the yellow marker in along the ditch and they don’t even leave room for a person to walk.
“This country is all about getting people fit and healthy but where are they supposed to walk?
“They don’t want to go into the towns to walk. People want to walk in their own area.
“This is an excellent motion as far as I’m concerned. Signs could be erected to make things safer.”
Engineer John Ormond informed the pair that he would investigate specific locations identified by both of them.
And as long as they fit under a specific criteria, he would try to erect them.
