Dunamase College visit TikTok (6)

Students from Dunamase College had an unforgettable experience recently when they were honoured with an invitation to TikTok HQ.

The students, from the Gaelbhratach Committee and Cumann Gaelach, received the visit for ‘Lá na Teicneolaíochta (Technology Day) as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations.

This opportunity was extended in recognition of their outstanding work in promoting the Irish language within their school and local community.

The event featured a panel discussion, hosted by Cúla4 presenter Niamh Ní Chróinín, with some of Ireland’s most popular Irish-language TikTokers, including The Kerry Cowboy – Séaghan Ó Súilleabháin, Máire Ní Churraoin, and Eoin P. Ó Murchú.

These content creators have gained thousands of followers for their engaging and entertaining videos ‘as Gaeilge’, from life on the farm, to Irish lullabies to Irish Dad jokes.

The panel discussed their journey on TikTok, the growing popularity of the Irish language on social media, and the pivotal role of digital platforms in the revival of Gaeilge among young people.

Following the panel discussion, students had the opportunity to participate in a TikTok workshop, where they worked alongside the influencers to create their own videos.

This hands-on experience allowed them to see firsthand how Irish content can be fun, engaging, and reach a global audience.

Reflecting on the event, students said:
”It was amazing to meet the TikTokers we follow and see how they use social media to make Irish cool and relevant.

“It really inspired us to think about how we can use technology to promote Gaeilge in our own way.”

The event showcased how digital platforms like TikTok are playing a key role in modernising and normalising Irish, proving that the language is not just for the classroom but can be a vibrant part of everyday life and popular culture.

The students’ participation in this event highlights Dunamase College’s commitment to promoting Gaeilge, especially as they continue their Gaelbhratach journey.

With experiences like this, they are not only embracing the language but also exploring new and innovative ways to share it with a wider audience.
