Laois County Council have given approval to two recent planning permission applications for community developments in rural parts of the county.
Camross Heritage CLG have received conditional approval for works at the famous Poet’s Cottage in the village.
The application is for a change of use to the cottage from an existing heritage office to a community café.
Works will include demolition of existing fabric and internal alterations, as well as new external doors and windows, new external awnings, external landscaping work and all associated site development works.
The cottage is named after Patrick Ryan, a poet who lived in Camross between 1750 and 1825 who wrote about the natural beauty and the people of this community and is currently a tourist attraction that represents Irish rural life from the 1800’s.
In nearby Shanahoe, meanwhile, the Community Hall Committee have received conditional approval for permission to change of use of part of hall.
The works will see the development a new playschool in the hall and will include preschool and after school services as well as an external fenced play area.
