The National Indoor U-20, U-23 and Masters Championships took place in Athlone over the weekend.
St Abban’s AC had seven athletes involved over the course of the two days, taking home a total of four medals, including one gold, one silver and two bronze.
The All-Ireland School’s Cross-Country Championships were held over the weekend in Galway where St Abban’s had three athletes in action.
National Indoor U-20 and U-23 Championships
Lucy Fitzgerald earned a bronze medal in the U-20 Triple Jump with a best jump of 10.70m.
She also finished sixth in the U-20 Long Jump with a best of 5.05m.
Just behind her in fourth place was clubmate Katie Baldwin with a jump of 10.51m.
In the U-23 Long Jump, Grace Fitzgerald – sister of Lucy – finished in sixth place with a jump of 5.12m.
National Indoor Masters Championships
John Territt earned a gold medal for his victory in the Weight For Distance with a throw of 6.46m.
Not content with that, his throw of 10.75m later saw John take home a silver medal in the O-60 Shot Putt.
Patsy Baldwin continued his successful Indoor campaign when he claimed a bronze medal in the O-55 High Jump with a leap of 1.35m.
Baldwin also competed alongside Territt in the Weight For Distance where he finished sixth after a throw of 5.81m.
Bernie Lawless finished just outside the medals when she came fourth in the Shot Putt with a best throw of 6.38m.
She also competed in the Weight For Distance Bernie where her throw of 3.82m was good enough for sixth place.
Paul Greenwood competed in the 60m Sprint where his time of 8.92s saw him also finish just outside the medals in fourth place.
All-Ireland School’s Cross-Country Championships
St Abban’s athletes Zoe Dunne, Laura Aryes and Rachel Ayres represented St Leo’s College, Carlow, in the All-Ireland School’s Cross-Country Championships having qualified through Leinster’s three weeks previously.
First up was Dunne who had a brilliant run in the Minor race, finishing in 26th, which placed her in the Top 10 Leinster athletes across the line.
Laura Aryes was next up in the Junior race where she had a fantastic run to finish in ninth place.
This saw Aryes gain selection for her first international cap on the Irish Schools team which will compete at the SIAB Cross Country Championships in Falkirk, Scotland, in two weeks’ time.
Her sister, Rachel Ayres was the final club athlete in action, putting in a superb performance to finish in zsixth place in the Senior race.
