The death has occurred of Noel Hume, the former hugely popular owner and proprietor of the iconic Portlaoise pub Hume’s.
Aged in his early 80s, Noel was the fourth generation of his family to run the pub prior to its sale to a developer in 2004.
The family’s involvement in the pub stretched right back to 1863 and Noel is remembered as good-humoured, welcoming and generous publican.
Noel and his family lived above the pub prior to its sale before moving to live in The Downs on the Stradbally Road.
As well as being a pub – and grocery in previous generations – it was also a popular local meeting point, Hume’s Corner.
Pre-deceased by his daughter Aoife, he is deeply regretted by his loving wife Rose, daughters Aisling and her son Malachy and Malachy Snr, Niamh and her husband Damien and their son Robert, sisters Fionnula and Eimear, brother Arthur, sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Reposing at his residence on Thursday February 20th from 4pm concluding with rosary at 7pm.
Removal on Friday at 1:30pm to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise for 2pm requiem mass. Interment afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.
