Thieves have stolen copper piping in two separate robberies in Laois over the last few days.

One robbery took place at a house in Rush Hall in Mountrath, sometime between 8pm on Monday and 2pm yesterday.

The house was considerably damaged during the robbery as the perpetrators pulled copper piping away which was linked to an oil burner.

The other incident took place at Bloomfield Cross in Portlaoise, sometime between Saturday and yesterday, with the robbery only being reported to Gardaí yesterday.

In this case, the thieves gained access to the house, which is under construction, by throwing a kerb stone threw a rear window.

Gardaí estimate that up to €1,000 of piping was taken by the robbers afterwards.

They say that they are unsure if the two incidences are connected, but revealed that these are the latest in a line of similar crimes committed around the county in recent weeks.

Any witnesses to either of these crimes, or anyone who can assist the gardaí in any way, should call Portlaoise Garda Station on 05786 74100.
