No matter the result tonight, one Laois player would emerge as a Sigerson Cup winner.
That was because DCU and UCD met in the Third Level final with two Laois players in oppositions.
Killeshin’s Conor Heffernan was midfield for DCU and his clubmate Killian Roche was in goal for UCD.
In the end, it was Heffernan that was celebrating as his side ran out 1-16 to 3-6 winners.
This was a reversal of the result when the pair met in Round 2 and UCD were the side that triumphed.
Ryan O’Toole bagged a goal early on for UCD in this one as the favourites made a bright start.
But DCU battled back to level the game at 0-6 to 1-3 at half time.
Heffernan was on the scoresheet early in the second half as DCU went ahead and then Ethan Dunne struck for a goal.
DCU stretched out their lead from there as two late UCD goals took the bleak look off the scoreline.
This was a sixth Sigerson Cup for DCU and their first title since 2020.
Heffernan and Roche will be back on the field together on Sunday afternoon when Laois host Sligo in Round 3 of the National Football League.
