Ballyfin Demense Michelin Star

The Michelin Guide to Great Britain & Ireland has unveiled its newest awards including a Michelin Star for the five-star Ballyfin Demesne in Laois.

Under the stewardship of Executive Chef, Ricard Picard-Edwards, who is renowned for his use of seasonal Irish produce grown on the Estate’s 614 acres, the fine-dining restaurant at Ballyfin offers guests an exceptional contemporary Irish cuisine experience.

Commenting on the award, Picard-Edwards said: “We are absolutely thrilled with today’s news.

“This is a wonderful accolade to receive and I’m very proud of our hard work at Ballyfin and the team’s dedication.

“We are inspired each day by the extraordinary 19th century 8- acre walled garden that is any chef’s dream to pick produce from.”

Prior to joining Ballyfin in April 2023, Picard-Edwards was Executive Head Chef at Lartington Hall, Barnard Castle, Durham.

And before this, at Lords of the Manor, Upper Slaughter in The Cotswolds where he received his first Michelin Star in 2014, as well as 3 AA rosettes.

He also worked as Head Chef at Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa, another Michelin-starred hotel restaurant.

Managing Director of Ballyfin, Seamus Crotty congratulated Richard and his team saying: “To be awarded a Michelin Star for the restaurant, so soon after the hotel received three Michelin Keys for the hotel, is a huge achievement.

“I am immensely proud of the entire Ballyfin team for their dedication and commitment to excellence.

“I would like to thank Michelin for these accolades, a testament to the high standards we strive to achieve.”

Situated at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in Laois, Ballyfin is known for its breathtaking 614-acre estate, historic Regency mansion, and refined Irish hospitality.

Since opening in 2011 following an extensive restoration, the hotel has won numerous awards for its unmatched service and luxurious offerings.

This latest distinction marks a significant milestone for luxury hospitality in Ireland, highlighting Ballyfin’s commitment to creating memorable and authentic guest experiences while setting a new standard for excellence throughout the region.

Ballyfin Demesne is a member of Relais & Chateaux and has been consistently acknowledged as one of the best hotels in Europe.
