From Colle San Magno in Italy, Nino Ciamberlano originally came to Ireland in 1969.
2 – Laois County Councillors fume over new plans to reduce speed limits
New speed limit restrictions are set to be rolled out across Laois from Friday, February 7.
The Department of Transport have decided that default speed limits on all local and rural Irish roads will be lowered on from 80 to 60km/h.

Dale Kavanagh is the latest Laois native to go viral on TikTok after a video he posted gained over two million views.
Dale is the owner of Dale Kavanagh Steel and one of his inventions gained huge traction on the platform amassing a huge amount views, as well as almost 32,000 likes.
4 – Planning permission awarded to several housing developments and community projects across Laois
Laois County Council has recently approved a series of planning applications across various industries and services in the county.
Brook Advantage Limited have been given the green light to develop Phase One of a proposed three-phased housing development at Rathmoyle on the Ballyroan Road in Abbeyleix.

Laois, as a county, is “missing a trick” by not doing more to promote the Rock of Dunamase as a major tourist destination.
That is according to Independent County Councillor Tommy Mulligan, who was speaking at the Council’s first monthly meeting of 2025.

7 – Planning Permission: Applications submitted for 19 new homes in Laois plus a solar farm as planned crèche to be replaced in Portlaoise
Laois County Council has received planning applications from two separate developers that would see the construction of 19 new homes in the county.
Kingscroft Developments Ltd are seeking planning permission to replace a crèche in Clonroosk Abbey with two residential properties.
8 – Former Laois footballer named in London squad ahead of National Football League
A former Laois footballer has been named in the London senior football panel ahead of their National Football League Division 4 campaign.
Former Portlaoise keeper Graham Brody has been included in a 32-man squad.
9 – Division by division: All the fixtures in this year’s Laois club football leagues
Laois GAA have released the club football league fixtures for the coming season – which will get underway on Sunday March 9 with the opening round of the Laois Shopping Centre ACFL Division 3 and 4 competitions.
Division 1 of the football league begins on Thursday, March 13 with St Joseph’s hosting Portlaoise and Graiguecullen travelling to Stradbally.

Proposals have been laid out this week by Laois County Council which could see changes made to the National Electoral Register.
The first proposal would see citizens automatically go onto the Electoral Register when they reach 18 years of age.
