Match postponed again – Laois footballers rescheduled trip to Leitrim is OFF

The Laois senior footballers will have to wait another week for their season to begin.

That is after it has been announced, for the second time in a couple of hours, their round 1 clash against Leitrim is off.

The game was originally scheduled for today, Saturday, at 2.30pm in Ballinamore.

Leitrim play their home games in Carrick-on-Shannon but due to works on that facility, the game had been switched to the club venue.

However, the after effects of Storm Éowyn means half a million premises without power and the pitch in Ballinamore is one of those places.

The game was rescheduled to Sunday but efforts to restore power have failed.

Laois GAA confirmed the news in a statement this evening.

They said: “Please note that the Allianz Football League Roinn 3 fixture between Liatroim and Laois, which was rescheduled for tomorrow, has been Postponed due to continued electrical issues caused by Storm Éowyn.”

It is understood that the CCC will now have to meet to decide when the game will be replayed.

Laois face Offaly next weekend and then there is a break but that is where the Sigerson Cup final is penciled in for.

It means that the next available weekend to play the game is March 8.
