Leinster Juvenile Cross-Country Relays
The Leinster Juvenile Cross-Country Relays took place in Offaly on Saturday, January 18, with five teams representing St Abban’s AC across all age groups.
In what was a truly fantastic achievement, all five teams secured medals at the event.
The stand-out performances on the day came from the U-14s, where the Boys and Girls teams each won Gold.
The Boys team was comprised of Cathal English, Harry Brennan, Shane Kelly and John Conway; while Roisin Kearney, Abigail Daly, Sinead Fitzpatrick and Faye Brennan won for the Girls.
There were also two Silver medals won thanks to the efforts of the U-16 Girls team and the U-12 Boys team.
The U-16 Girls were represented by Zoe Dunne, Katie Hartnett, Chelsey Dooley and Laura Ayers; with Sean O’Doherty, Tom Condron, Edward McDonald and Liam Doyle running for the U-12 Boys.
The day began with the U-12 Girls team of Amy Leonard, Meath Kearney, Penelope McMahon and Ava Brophy taking home Bronze.
Leinster Masters Cross-Country Championships
Claire Phelan and Francis Fleming of St Abban’s were both in action at the Leinster Masters Cross-Country Championships held in Kilcormac, Offaly on Saturday.
Both had excellent runs with Claire finishing 11th in the F-40 and Francis 6th in the M-65 age categories.
National Indoor League Round 1
Round 1 of the National Indoor League took place on Sunday January, 19, with St Abban’s sending both a Men’s and Ladies team to compete in the National Indoor Arena in Abbottstown.
After the scores were tallied at the end of Day 1, the Ladies team lie in 16th place while the Men’s team are placed 13th.
Round 2 is scheduled for February 8.
Club Indoor Track and Field Championships
In a busy weekend for the club, St Abban’s also hosted a club Indoor Track and Field Championships in Nenagh on Saturday.
The event allowed for athletes to prepare themselves for the upcoming Indoor Championships.
With the addition of some local clubs including Nuenna AC, Barrow Valley AC and Visually Impaired athletes, there was great competition across a wide variety of events.
