Laois Offaly Families For Autism (LOFFA) recently received an award of €2,500 as part of the AXA Community Awards, an initiative which aims to empower community groups that are actively working to deliver positive changes.
LOFFA Chairperson Breda Murray and LOFFA Assistant Secretary Orlaith Kerrigan were in attendance in AXA’s Portlaoise office to receive a cheque from the branch staff on behalf of AXA Ireland and Branch Manager Alan Doolan.
The representatives from LOFFA were hugely grateful for the award and said that the award would go a long way in facilitating days out for the children among other aides to the non-profit organisation.
LOFFA, established in 2001, is a non-profit charity dedicated to supporting families in Laois and Offaly affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The charity offers vital services including subsidised therapy, information, advice, and advocacy to help families navigate the challenges of ASD.
Operating without public funding, LOFFA relies entirely on fundraising efforts to provide financial assistance to its members.
Through a generous subsidy scheme, the charity helps offset the cost of private therapies such as occupational, speech, and behavioral therapy, as well as counselling services.
Each of AXA’s 24 branches in Ireland nominated a local group that demonstrates how their work is contributing to a safer and more resilient future for their local community to receive the award.
