LaoisToday premium model now broadened to include additional content

The LaoisToday premium model, which had been confined just to sports coverage since July 2022, has now been broadened to include additional content.

The change, which comes into effect immediately, means that some of our higher-quality unique content will now only be accessible to subscribers.

Subscription is available for €6.99 per month or at the annual rate of €69.99. There is no minimum contract and subscribers can cancel at any time.

For those who are already subscribing, there will be no change. You can continue to use LaoisToday in the exact same manner.

“The vast bulk of our non-sport content will remain free of charge to our audience,” explained Steven Miller, owner and managing director of LaoisToday.

“It means that for those who have already subscribed, their offering has now been enhanced.

“But content that requires greater time to generate will now form part of our premium offering.

“We have published a large volume of high quality, unique, in depth, features and interviews since we established in February 2017. We are also particularly proud of the extensive local political coverage that we have provided.

“It is content of this nature that will now be classified as premium.

“The price remains unchanged which we think represents great value. An annual subscription equates to 19 cent per day or €1.34 per week.

“The media landscape at local and national level has changed dramatically across the past decade.

“The rapid decline of print publications has been met with a transition to people accessing their news and information online.

“But providing this service free of charge is not sustainable. The majority of online platforms now have subscription models in place augmented by advertising and sponsorship.

“We are very grateful to everyone who has supported LaoisToday across the past eight years, be they readers, viewers, listeners, subscribers and advertisers.

“LaoisToday is proud to be the only locally-owned news platform in this region and one of just a handful of publications in the country that is family-owned.

“We love what we do and hope to continue to be a platform that informs, engages and entertains the Laois community at home and abroad for many years to come.”
