Killeshin native, Vonnie Bolton, launched her second children’s book last Friday night in St Fiacc’s House Graiguecullen.
The book which is entitled ‘Friends in Fairyland’ is the follow on book to her very successful sold out first book ‘Today in Fairyland’ which was released just over a year ago.
In her new book, which is tailored to children of primary school level, Vonnie has created two delightful stories called ‘Spiders lucky Escape’ and ‘Jack Sprat’.
These stories centre on some well known Fairy Tale characters such as Ms Muffett, Little Boy Blue and Jack Spratt.
Vonnie has weaved her magic into these tales to create a wonderful and enjoyable reading experience for all the family.
The book is beautifully illustrated by the talented artist Geraldine Cooper Sheridan who has done an amazing job on the final copy.
Included is a map of Fairyland with all the well known character’s houses and street names clearly labelled.
Vonnie who is a retired primary teacher and Deputy Principal of Killeshin N.S is renowned for teaching music, making the delicious Bolton Family jams and now is a flourishing children’s author.
Her charming style of writing has been a huge hit with school going children and she has been generous with her time making sure to visit her parish schools of St Fiacc’s N.S, Graiguecullen and Killeshin N.S as well as other schools reading her stories to the children.
10% of the net profits of the book will go to St Fiacc’s House in Graiguecullen which is a parish run day centre for adults in Laois and Carlow as well as providing meals on wheels and supported home care to a wide catchment area.
The book was launched by Fianna Fáil TD and friend Jennifer Murnane O’Connor who has accompanied Vonnie to Lourdes for the past six years and like Vonnie is very proud and supportive of her local community.
There was a great crowd present to get their copies signed in person by Vonnie and the Book launch was once again hosted by acclaimed writer and journalist, Eimear Ní Bhraonáin who did a wonderful job on the night.
The book is only €10 and is available in the Arboretum Carlow, Primrose Cafe Killeshin, Killeshin Stores, Moone Cafe, Buythebook.ie or directly from Vonnie – just email her mammybolton@gmail.com.
