The annual remembrance ceremony for those who died in World War One took on Sunday in Portlaoise.
The ceremony also honoured those who died in subsequent conflicts across the globe.
A service of remembrance was conducted in St Peter’s Church of Ireland followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial Park.
The War Memorial was built in 1918 to the memory of 177 officers and men of the 4th Battalion (Leinster), Queen’s County Regiment who died in The First World War of 1914-18.
The event, while sombre, is always very popular and well-attended, and this year was no exception.
The service was part of the greater Remembrance Sunday, which saw memorials in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India and more.
It is held on the second Sunday in November every year to mark Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in World War I in 1918.
The total number of military and civilian casualties in World War I is an estimated 40 million dead or wounded, ranking it among the deadliest conflicts in human history.
