The Leaves Festival 2024 came to a thrilling conclusion over the weekend, as the best of Irish writing and music was on show across Laois.
Events took place at numerous venues across Portlaoise, Abbeyleix, Portarlington and Mountmellick, with many renowned writers and musicians in attendance.
Abbeyleix hosted workshops with children’s authors Eve McDonnell and Sinead O’Hart as well as a night of reading and song with novelist Niall Williams and Mike Hanrahan of Stockton’s Wing.
In Portarlington, Award winning novelist Donal Ryan Donal was in conversation with Claire O’Brien, presenter of Encore, Midland 103’s Arts and Culture show.
There was a remarkable series of shows in Portlaoise, with one of the highlights being an evening of music and poetry with Paul Muldoon, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and Brendan Begley.
Other events included a Laois Writers anthology launch, conversation with Barbara Scully and Eleanor Mills, as well as the screening of films such as ‘A Life in Lyrics.’
Youth by Kevin Curran, Leaves Writer in Residence, performed readings in various locations around the county including Portlaoise Prison, Mountmellick Library and the Dunamaise Arts Centre
