It was a special occasion for Francie Gorman recently as the highest honour that Laois County Council can bestow was given to him.
Francie was given a Civic Reception to recognise all of his achievements to date – with him currently being president of the Irish Farmers Association.
Gorman, who farms in Ballinakill but is a native of Spink, was elected as national president of the IFA last December.
He had previously been the South Leinster regional chairman and, prior to that, had served a term as chairman of Laois IFA.
Gorman saw off the challenge of Martin Stapleton from Limerick to win the IFA presidential position in last December’s election.
In all he polled almost 17,000 votes from farmers across the country.
Francie was joined in the chamber by members of his family and his friends.
This included his wife Kay and his son Tom who are very proud of Francie and all his achievements.
Photographer Michael Scully was present on the night and captured some great images.
