More than 2,500 Laois farmers to receive payments totalling over €14 million

Over 2,500 farmers across County Laois will soon receive payments totalling in excess of €14 million it has been announced.

The exact figure for funding in Laois will be €14,336,846 divided amongst 2,536 farmers in the County.

This means the average payment to each farmer in Laois will be €5,653, which is over €1,000 above the national average of €4,595.

In total, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, announced a package of €506 million for more than 110,000 farmers nationwide.

The advance payments come under the 2024 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS).

Some farmers in the county will have already received payments, which began trickling into bank accounts across Ireland on Wednesday, October 16.

Laois Fianna Fáil TD Seán Fleming, Minister of State, said the payments are “excellent news,” adding that they are “a vital support to farm families in Laois and give a real boost to family farm income.”

Deputy Flanagan said his party “are committed to ensuring that these payments continue to issue in the most efficient way possible.”

The Laois TD said payments will be visible in farmers’ bank accounts “in the coming days.”
