The staff and students of St Mary’s CBS Portlaoise came together to raise money for a very worthy cause recently.

They hosted a bake sale for the students, and a coffee morning for the staff, in aid of Laois Hospice.

Transition Year students brought in some baked goods from home and donated them to the bake sale for the entire student body.

The staff hosted a coffee morning in the staff room and the combined total raised this year was €787.

This is one of the major fundraisers organised annually to raise much needed funds for Hospices.

St Mary’s CBS are very thankful for the kind donations and to anyone who baked/brought something in for the coffee morning/bake sale.

A spokesperson said: “We are so grateful to our TYs who did fantastic work in what was their first year involved.”

Mary Delaney (Chairperson) sincerely thanked the students and Niamh Hyland for organising.

She said: “No matter what happens in life, most of us know someone who has been in a hospice and it brings great comfort to a family and a patient to have a hospice care for them.”
