The Heath Golf Club were crowned the Leinster champions of the Women’s Revive Active Four-Ball recently.
The team, comprised of Catherine Reilly, Sadie Ging, Helen Kelly, Maria Delaney, Mary Culliton, Sarah Bergin, Mary Cushen and Noeleen Byrne, with super subs Therese Ryan and Mary Malone, emerged victorious.
Under the guidance of the management duo of Marion Mills and Jane O’Rourke, they navigated their way through seven matches.
The first outing was a 3-1 win over Birr Golf Club. This was followed by a 2.5 to 1.5 victory over the The Royal Curragh Golf Club.
Match 3 yielded a 2.5 to 1.5 win against Waterford Golf Club. Next up was New Forest Golf Club, Westmeath, with The Heath being victorious on a 2.5 to 1.5 scoreline.
The next game was against Mullingar Golf Club with a victory of 3-1. Excitement was building as The Heath now faced Headfort in the semi final of the competition where once again they were successful with a scoreline of 3.5-0.5.
With bated breath, the team, management and supporters headed to Mullingar Golf Club to take on Greystones Golf Club in the Leinster Final of the Women’s Revive Active Four-Ball.
The first to step on tee were Catherine Reilly and Sadie Ging. It was a great contest that went right down to a wire with the pair winning on the 18th green.
Now it was the turn of Maria Delaney and Helen Kelly who faced a very tough Greystones pairing and unfortunately went down in their match on the 14th green.
Winning on the 13th green, Noeleen Byrne and Therese Ryan set up the match for a very exciting finish.
All eyes now turned to the pairing of Sarah Bergin and Mary Cushen, who were level coming down the 18th fairway.
After a blistering third shot by Mary onto the green, she sank the eight foot putt to halve the hole and to win the Leinster Pennant to the cheers of the team supporters.
A spokesperson for The Heath said: “The team gelled well together and could be regularly seen on The Heath putting in hours of practice before every match.
“They travelled to each of the venues to get to know the different courses.
“They were ably put together by the team Manager, Marion Mills, assisted by Jane O’Rourke.”
