Mixed fortunes for Laois men with clubs in Roscommon and Offaly

There were mixed fortunes for two Laois men who were involved with clubs outside the county last weekend.

Arles-Kilcruise forward Ross Munnelly enjoyed success in Roscommon with Padraig Pearses.

As well as playing for his native club and coaching the Laois senior footballers, Munnelly has been involved with Padraig Pearses for the last two seasons.

They lost out in the semi final stage last season but went all the way this year.

On Sunday, they defeated Roscommon Gaels 1-11 to 1-9 – claiming the Fahey Cup for the third time in six seasons.

They will now face the eventual Galway champions in the Connacht quarter final in two weeks.

Meanwhile, it was a different story for Portlaoise man Niall Rigney on Sunday.

He was in charge of Ballinamere who reached the Offaly SHC final for the first time since 1908.

They came up against Kilcormac-Killoughey and although they couldn’t prevent them from doing two in a row, they just went down by two points.
