Local star all set to perform at newly refurbished Balcony Arts Theatre

With three number one songs and a chart-topping album in the official Irish charts, Mountmellick folk singer, Emer Dunne, has been making her mark on the Irish music scene.

She recently packed the visitor centre at Ballykilcavan Brewery, Stradbally on Culture Night with a captivated audience singing along from the onset.

Now she is poised to bring that same enchantment to Mountmellick’s newly renovated Balcony Theatre, on Saturday, October 19 at 8pm.

Set to be joined by renowned musicians, guitarist, Eamonn Moran and fiddler, John Davidson, Emer promises a night of memorable live music and song, blending Irish folk with their own distinctive flair and combining well known and loved gems with contemporary surprises.

The Mountmellick folk artist recently completed two of her own headline theatre tours around the country.

Alongside this she joined renowned folk legends, The Fureys, on their Irish tours in 2023 and again in 2024, performing in leading venues including Vicar Street in Dublin; Cork Opera House; the INEC in Killarney; Wexford Opera House and The Royal Theatre in Castlebar.

Most recently Emer, daughter of dairy farmer John Joe and the late Bridie Dunne, got an enthusiastic response from the audience in Perth, Western Australia, opening for folk legends, The High Kings.

She was delighted to hear the crowds singing along to her renditions of some of the great Irish folk songs.

Meanwhile, on September 27 Emer released an original contemporary folk song ‘Running back to You,’ written by Irish songwriters Matt McGinn and Brigid O’Neill, into the Irish charts.

“The song quickly soared to number one in the official Irish charts and is receiving radio play across the country,” she said.

“I wanted to put out something a little different and I am thrilled with the response so far.

“It’s an optimistic love song and talks about working through the ups and downs in a relationship and I hope people find it uplifting.

“The track is available to stream or purchase on all major platforms,” said Emer.

Tickets for the concert are priced at €15 each and available from www.wewillgo.com, the new online booking system at the arts theatre or by phoning 086 3758602.
