Open Night for Scoil Chríost Rí, Portlaoise – Thursday, September 26

The Open Night for prospective 1st Year students and their parents takes place in Scoil Chríost Rí Portlaoise on Thursday, September 26th from 5.30-8.30pm and it certainly is an exciting time for the only all-girls school in Laois.

With a new principal at the helm who has an exciting new vision to improve an already well-established and highly successful school, interest for applications to secure one of the 150 available places is expected to be very high.

Boasting state of the art facilities, the county’s highest achieving academic results and a sporting and extra-curricular program that is nationally renowned, Scoil Chríost Rí has always been a favourite destination for outgoing primary school girls in the region.

Sean Smyth, the successor to the highly respected former principal Helen O’Donnell following her recent retirement after 26 years of stellar service to the school, is keen to ensure that this reputation develops even further.

With stronger links to the community at the forefront of his plans, Mr Smyth has spoken of how privileged he feels to be leading such a progressive and caring school environment.

‘High care and high expectations’ is the mantra he brings from his previous school, Grange Community School in Dublin where he served as principal for six years, making him a perfect fit for a school that has always prided itself on its strong ethos, pastoral care and outstanding achievements both in the classroom and beyond.

The Open Night will provide prospective students and their parents and guardians with a flavour of the exciting, dynamic and supportive daily life of students at the school located in an idyllic landscaped setting on the fringes of Portlaoise.

Those in attendance will get to meet their teachers, engage in the wide variety of subject options and capture a snapshot of the countless advantages of being one of the school’s newest students in the coming year.

The Open Night is also open to parents of 5th class students in all local primary schools, affording plenty of time to apply well in advance of the transition from primary to secondary school.

With demand outreaching supply in the intake for the 2024-25 academic year, early applications are encouraged. Once the Open Night concludes, parents and guardians will have until noon on Friday, October 22nd to submit their applications for the 2025-26 intake.

Everyone at Scoil Chríost Rí is looking forward to what promises to be an informative and enjoyable insight into life at what is regarded as one of most progressive schools in the Midlands.
