Portlaoise College ready for international educational exchanges and collaboration

Following from the school’s successful participation in European Languages Week, Portlaoise College has successfully secured funding through the Erasmus+ programme for the current school year.

The school say this will open doors for international educational exchanges and collaboration.

Students from Portlaoise College partnering with peers from three European schools:

  • Colegio Santa Gema in Madrid, Spain;
  • Notre Dame College in France;
  • OSZ Schlanders in South Tyrol, Italy.

As part of the programme, students from Portlaoise College will have the opportunity to travel to these partner schools for a fully funded week-long exchange.

In return, students from Spain, France, and Italy will visit Portlaoise, giving them a chance to experience Irish culture and education.

During these exchanges, students from all four schools will work together on a year-long collaborative project aimed at improving the sustainability of their schools.

The Deputy Principal of Portlaoise College, Patrick Travers noted that the Erasmus+ programme will provide valuable opportunities for students to gain first-hand experience of different cultures and education systems.

“This programme will allow our students to expand their horizons, improve their language skills, and build lasting friendships with their peers across Europe,” he said.

The Erasmus+ exchange is expected to enhance the educational experience at Portlaoise College by encouraging students to engage with global issues and develop a broader perspective on the world.

The programme also aims to strengthen ties between the participating schools, fostering a sense of European unity and shared values.

Details about the selection process for participating students will be announced soon, with information sessions planned to provide students and their families with more insight into the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ programme.

This initiative marks a significant step for the school in promoting international education and equipping its students with skills and experiences that will benefit them throughout their lives.
