People First Credit Union has announced the second year of the ‘Community Champions Award’.
This is a prestigious €10,000 award aimed at recognising and supporting the extraordinary efforts of local volunteer groups within our common bond area.
This initiative, which debuted last year, was first awarded to the deserving winners, Portlaoise Tidy Towns, for their outstanding biodiversity project.
The €10,000 is designed to empower a local volunteer group within our common bond, with a vision to generate sustainable benefits for both the group and the wider community’.
With the funds received Portlaoise Tidy Towns did excellent work in the local area, including planting of 240 trees at the site of the former St. Francis School on the Well Road earlier this year.
More recently they planted some native wild orchids in town, guided by expert, Brian Gaynor.
Carol Murphy, Marketing Manager for People First Credit Union, highlighted the importance of volunteerism.
She said: “Our credit union is powered by the spirit of volunteerism. It is with great pride that we continue the Community Champions Awards for a second year, building on the success of last year’s winner, Portlaoise Tidy Towns, and their remarkable biodiversity project.”
The deadline for all applications is Friday, 27th September 2024, at 1 pm.
The three finalists will be announced at the Community and Voluntary Awards on 8th
