Electric Picnic: A selection of local performers set to feature at this year’s festival

From world-renowned actors to Main Stage performers, from dancing to quizzes and from male choirs to food producers, there will be a number of local involvements at Electric Picnic in Stradbally this weekend.

Local groups Pogueology, The Outcast Crew, Forge and the Timahoe Male Choir will all be on stage.

So too will dancers from the Lynam School of Dancing as well as Paul Dargan doing a set with Liam O’Connor.

Then there’s a chat between Robert Sheehan and Dylan Moran in Mindfield on Saturday as well as the LaoisToday QuizCast which gets proceedings underway on Friday in the Ah Hear tent in Mindfield.

As well as that, The Laois Taste food producers group have their own stall close to the entrance to Mindfield while Kelly Lou will have her coffee and cake offering in her usual slot in Trailer Park.

Below we list some of the performers we are aware of with strong Laois links.

If we have missed anyone, please let us know and we will add them to this list.

THURSDAY

Survivor: The brilliant Laois-based Pogues tribute band Pogueology will be in the new Survivor area at 11pm.

FRIDAY

Mindfield: An Electric Picnic debut for the LaoisToday QuizCast in the Ah Hear tent at 2.40pm.

Main Stage: Roisin Barrett from Portlaoise is part of The Mary Wallopers, an increasingly popular Irish folk music group. Their continued rise is evident with a Main Stage slot on Saturday at 4.45pm.

Croí Crescent Earth: The Lynam School of Irish Dancing will be part of the Céilí Mór for All at 5pm.

Salty Dog: The multi-talented Paul Dargan from Graiguecullen (who will also be on duty for the weekend as the LaoisToday photographer) will be dancing with the hugely entertaining Kerry musician Liam O’Connor at 8.45pm.

SATURDAY

Mindfield: Actor Robert Sheehan, a native of Portlaoise, will be on stage with standup comedian Dylan Moran in the Manifesto tent on Saturday at 4pm.

SUNDAY

Hazelwood: Forge, who are made up of four recent past pupils of Knockbeg College and who won the recent Electric Youth competition in the Dunamaise Arts Centre, will be on stage at 1pm.

Hazelwood: You won’t need to even move to take in the next local group on stage on Sunday – the Timahoe Male Choir are next up in Hazelwood at 2.30pm.

Trailer Park: It’s a double header of sorts for the Timahoe Male Choir who go straight from Hazelwood to the nearby Trailer Park for their second performance of the day at 3.30pm.

Croí Crescent Earth: The Lynam School of Irish Dancing will be back for a second time on Sunday as part of the Céilí Mór for All at 5pm

Salty Dog: Portlaoise-based six-piece Irish trad-punk band The Outcast Crew are in the Salty Dog at 10pm on Sunday.
