Laois striker set to swap the League of Ireland for the MLS in America

Laois striker Peter Grogan is reportedly set to swap the bright lights of the League of Ireland for the MLS in America.

The Crettyard teenager signed for Bray Wanderers at the start of this season in the League of Ireland First Division.

However, the Wicklow Independent is reporting that Grogan is set to sign for Austin FC and cross the Atlantic.

Grogan hit the ground running in Bray as he equalled a scoring record after netting in five consecutive games.

He is among a small list of players who have achieved this, only Colm Tresson in 2000 and Ger Pender in 2016 having done so before.

Injury robbed Grogan of the chance to beat the record but he returned to action in late July where scored against Wexford.

Formally of Crettyard United, Grogan went on to join CK United where he played in the League of Ireland at juvenile level.

He then signed for Bohemians where he was part of the U-19 side, alongside fellow Laois lad Aaron Doran, that won League of Ireland U-19 Enda McGuill Cup in 2022.

Grogan was named U-17 Bohemians Player of the Year later that year.

Grogan has also been capped internationally and was named the Republic of Ireland U-18 Schools International Player of the Year in 2023.

The MLS transfer window closes today, August 14, so the deal is expected to happen then.

Grogan is expected to feature for Austin FC II initially who operate in the MLS Next Pro league.
