St Abban’s shine at the National Track and Field Championships

St Abban’s AC drew a busy summer of athletics to a close with the national U-20, U-23 and masters National Track and Field Championships.

Katie Baldwin and Aoibhinn McDonald were the only athletes representing St Abbans in the competition in Tullamore.

Katie finished fifth place in the triple jump. Her leap of 10.15 metres was just short of the medal winning positions. In the U-20 pole vault contest Aoibhinn finished in eighth place.

The club were well represented at the Masters championships which also took place in Tullamore.

Four athletes from various age categories competed in a wide range of track and field sports on the day.

First was Mark Brennan who was part of the Men’s National League Team last weekend was back in action across the Javelin, High Jump and Long Jump.

It was a very successful day for Mark where he brought home gold, silver and bronze respectively.

Next up was Patsy Baldwin who was taking part in the O-55 category. Patsy finished sixth place in the weight for distance with a throw of 5.54 metres.

He would have to wait until the High Jump to get a medal where his clearance of 1.3 metres earned him third place.

In the O-75 category Dick Mullins finished second place in the 5000m with an impressive time of 25:29. John Territt was the final athlete in action, throwing in the Discus, Javelin and Hammer.

In the O60 Discus John won gold with a throw of 40.82m. Next up was the Javelin where he threw 33.03m which saw him finish in 2nd place.

In his final event of the day John won another gold after a throw of 36.74m.

The St Abbans Tractor, Car and Motorbike run will take place on Sunday, August 25 at the clubhouse in Monavea, Crettyard. Vehicles should arrive at 12pm as the run is set to commence at 1pm.
