Young musicians and singers took to the stage in the new Outdoor Performance Space on the grounds of Laois Music Centre on Friday night, to perform as part of the finale concert of Music Generation Laois’ annual Summer School of Rock and Pop.
The Summer School caters for young people age ten up to eighteen, each placed in a rock or pop band, and then mentored by a professional musician across five days.
This year, 54 young people signed up to the Summer School, including a young musician from Belfast, and another from County Clare, who travelled to Laois to take part in the event.
Professional musicians working with young participants were James O’Connor, Denise Boyle, David Harte, Ros O’Meara, Terry Byrne, John Davidson, Hendryk Kar and Luke McHugh.
Six original songs were created as part of the event as well as a large group performance of The Killers song, All These Things That I’ve Done.
“Young musicians and singers taking part in this year’s Summer School were absolutely fantastic,” said Rosa Flannery Music Development Officer with Music Generation Laois.
“They worked really hard across the week, and we know their dedication paid off by the quality of their performances at tonight’s concert.
“They were so creative, and all completely music-mad, its just been a brilliant week here in Laois Music Centre.”
Music Generation Laois’ next big show is the debut performance of the newly established Laois Community Choir on the grounds of Laois Music Centre on Thursday, July 18 at 7pm, free admission, all welcome.
