Our student series answers all the questions forthcoming students may have about attending college.
From coursework to life in the city, it’s all answered. Daniel McEvoy is next to answer the questions.
He is from Ballyfin and is currently studying Biological and Chemical Sciences in Limerick.
We asked Daniel all about life down in Limerick.
Why did you choose to study what you chose?
I saw it as a backdoor into medicine and I wanted to gain further knowledge in chemistry as I didn’t study it in school.
What are your plans when you finish College?
After I finish my course I plan to do postgraduate study. I want to do Graduate Entry Medicine in UL which is another four year course.
Do you think you would like to stay local, or perhaps move away?
I will probably stay local for my intern year and apply for a residency position in Australia or Canada but I haven’t yet decided.
Would you like to move home after college?
I will but only for a year or two.
What’s the hardest thing about your course?
Physical Chemistry and Applied Biochemistry.
What’s your typical college routine?
I usually wake up at eight for labs in the morning. They last three hours and then I go to Stables for lunch.
What’s your favourite part of the course?
I love the course work as it’s very interesting and I’ve made loads of friends in the course. There is also a paid work placement in third year which I’m looking forward to!
What advice would you give to anyone considering choosing to study this course?
Research the modules that are in the course as you may not be interested in some of them or score badly. I had a Physics module that I was completely unaware of.
