Funding of €13,141 has been unveiled for library supports in Laois as part of the Government’s Dormant Accounts Action Plan.
The funding will “assist public libraries in reaching out to people with disabilities and other marginalised groups.”
Laois County Council will contribute €1,460 towards the project, to bring the total funding to €14,602.
This funding will be allocated to the Council to support the purchase of a range of furniture for libraries throughout the county.
The furniture will include seven height-adjustable tables and 11 ergonomic chairs to support people with mobility needs and physical disabilities.
Eight Braille Labellers and eight C-Pens will also be purchased to support people with visual impairments.
And there will be two hearing loops purchased to help people with hearing impairments.
All equipment is designed to support the hearing and visually impaired community, the elderly and those with physical disabilities.
Welcoming the news, Fianna Fáil TD for LAois/Offaly, Sean Fleming said the improvements “will make a huge difference to people’s lives, so that they can visit our local libraries in Laois with ease.”
The 2024 Dormant Accounts Fund Action Plan outlines measures for funding of €47.6 million across 11 Government Departments.
