In Pictures: Laois athletes immensely successful at the Leinster Track and Field championships

The Leinster School’s Track and Field Championships took place recently when various schools from across the county represented in the competition.

Numerous young Laois athletes won their respective competitions.

Camross’s Charlie Peavoy, representing Kilkenny College, won the Minor Boys shot putt with a throw of 11.88 metres.

Andrew Cooper, also of Camross and Kilkenny College, won the Senior Boys shot putt following his throw of 14.02 metres.

Abbie Delaney, of Scoil Chriost Ri in Portlaoise, won the Junior Girls shot putt following a 9.97 metre throw.

St Fergal’s John Delaney claimed the Inter boys 400 metres in a time of 50.50.

In the Junior boys shot putt, Joshua Crosby of Knockbeg College also claimed gold with a throw of 12.13 metres.

Crettyard’s Fionnan Brennan, who attends Tyndall College, claimed victory in the U-16 boys shot putt with a throw of 12.56 metres.

In the Minor girls 75m Hurdles, Katie Hartnett, who attends Castlecomer CS but competes for St Abban’s, finished in 3rd place to secure a bronze medal.

Portlaoise CBS’ Dan Downey claimed third in the inter boys 800m while his classmate Daniel Warjak finished second in the U-16 boys mile.

Aoibhin McDonald, representing Gaelscoil Cheatharlach and is also a member of St Abban’s, won gold in the Senior Girls pole vault.

Her Vault of 3.10m saw her claim victory and set both a new Championship Record and Personal Best.

Scoil Chriost Ri’s Winner Alozie claimed third in the senior girls 200 metre sprint.

Rachel Hartnett, of Castlecomer CS, finished second in the girls U-16 shot putt.

Laura Ayers, of St Leo’s College, won a silver medal in the Minor Girls 800m.

While Rachel Dooley, of Ard Scoil na Trionoide in Athy and also of St Abban’s, achieved a third place finish in the U-16 girls long jump.
