“The most important sunrise of the year” is less than three weeks away, as the Darkness into Light 5km walks will get underway across the country.
The walks will take place on Saturday, May 11, with the Darkness Into Light Portarlington walk starting at 4.15am.
The walk will start and finish at McCann Park, the home of Portarlington GAA.
The venue will be open from 3.30am, with refreshments available both before and after the walk.
The walk is s part of the yearly Fundraiser for Pieta House, a national charity who provide a range of services to people who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, those who engage in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide.
“We are working really hard to raise as much awareness about this event and exceptional services Pieta House offer,” a representative from Darkness Into Light Portarlington said.
“We will have donation buckets available on the night, for anyone who would like to donate. No donation is too small.
“We look forward to seeing you there.”

“They have not only given their time to create this fabulous HOPE photo but they are supporting the Darkness Into Light Portarlington committee in fundraising, displaying posters and signage, raising awareness in their school and the local community, along with bringing superb ideas for this very important sunrise.
“If you don’t want to complete the walk you can always write a note on the biodegradable paper notes for the remembrance tree, which we will be planting in Coláiste Íosagáin on May 15.”
