Civic Reception to be held for Timahoe National School – winners of 2024 All-Ireland Mini-Scientist Exhibition

Laois County Council has confirmed it will hold a Civic Reception for Timahoe National School, who were crowned winners of the All-Ireland Mini-Scientist Exhibition 2024.

Scoil Mhuire Fatima students Emma Burke and Tomás Ramsbottom, who are in 5th Class, claimed glory in mid-March.

This was a monumental achievement for the cousins, who saw off competition from almost 7,000 children from across the country.

Their project, ‘Perfectly Paced,’ looks at how pacemakers can be charged by using wireless technology and kinetic energy.

Cllr Willie Aird also urged the County Council to follow through on their commitment to honouring for Francie Gorman, the newly elected leader of the IFA.

The announcement was made at the March meeting of the County Council last week, where the Council also agreed recognise a significant milestone of their own.

Independent Cllr James Kelly called for official recognition of the County Council’s 125th anniversary, which falls next month on Monday, April 22.

“Laois County Council have minuted and digitised the records of the very first meeting in 1899,” Cllr Kelly said.

“I am proposing that we recognise that next month by maybe reading a few items from the agenda of that meeting.”

The motion passed unanimously.
