All ladies welcome! – First ever Portlaoise Women’s Shed opens its doors

After plenty of hard work, the first ever Portlaoise Women’s Shed opened its doors earlier this month.

Located at Laois Partnership offices on the Timahoe Road in Portlaoise, the group officially formed on February 14.

They met again on February 22 and with 40 members in attendance, a committee was formed.

Avril O’Brien was chosen as chairperson with Sabrina Bowden as secretary, Mary McGrath is treasurer and Maria McCormack is the PRO.

On Monday, the group met with representatives from Laois County Council from Estate Management.

This meeting took place at the Community Centre in St Brigids to discuss how Laois County Council can support the shed.

Chairperson Avril O’Brien and PRO Maria McCormack say they have been inundated with support and interest from the community.

They said: “We will hold our next meeting on Thursday, February 29 at 6pm in Laois Partnership on the Timahoe Road and we urge all ladies to come along and the join the fun.

“Our group is full of women from all walks of life and all ages and abilities.

“We strive on inclusiveness in all our activities and our projects will all be centred around enjoyment and laughter for our group.

“We look forward to welcoming more women and are planning for a day trip to tullamore women’s shed and exciting actives to celebrate international women’s day.”
